This Pinterest project was inspired by a graphic pinned by the National Autism Association. The graphic includes an umbrella made of brightly colored puzzle pieces, which symbolize autism, and a quote: “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.” To me, this quote is about celebrating life – and in this case, celebrating individuals who have autism – which is a big part of what the Dan River Autism Awareness 5k is all about!
I started this arts and crafts project by painting the back sides of puzzle pieces with a variety of bright colors of acrylic paint.
I used another paint pen to add the handle of the umbrella, then it was time to start laying out the puzzle pieces. I started by outlining the umbrella in puzzle pieces, then filling it in, ensuring the puzzle pieces did not interlock… Easier said than done!
I used Krazy Glue to attach the puzzle pieces to the canvas. Here’s the finished project:
